I downloaded the highly - anticipated Super Mario Run today and it is proving to be a heck of a lot of fun. I thought that a 'one-handed play' scroller of a game would be a total let down - especially one that needs to be connected to the web to play.

You start off at the log in screen for a Nintendo account and are then guided through some great little tutorials. The saving grace in this type of one - handed play is our hero's jump abilities. There are a few variations in Mario's jump that lead to some fun breath - taking moments early on.

I'm by no means a gamer, but this is addictive.

I have yet to conquer World 1, or beat the heck of (my almost-namesake) 'Bowser'. However, the game looks to be a great one with which you can escape family and curl up alone after that awkward post-Trump discussion that you had with your elderly relatives at Christmas dinner.

In fact, Grandpa's probably still muttering to himself in the background about "making America great again", but just turn up the lovely little sounds in the game to drown him out. All you will be able to hear is the music of your joyful adolescence calling out in the key of nostalgia.
